Welcome to our Booth

It's handy, it's lightweight, and it is one of a kind. It easily fits into your jacket or pocketbook. Never again will you be confused about which movie to rent. Every single movie (350+) was an enjoyable experience. Some movies I chose not to include, simply because I did not like them. I have had people who have watched every movie and said they did not find even one they did not like.

I am not a critic. I am a projectionist, a movie lover, just like many of you. I try and keep an open mind when I enter a theater. I ignore the critics, and put my trust in the suspension of disbelief. Without it, I feel we are all in danger of becoming too jaded, too quick to judge the creativity of others.

Ratings System

8.0 Worth Seeing

8.5 Very Good

8.8 Excellent

9.0 Superb...

Anything above 9.0 is obviously A Must See

* An asterick appears beside each movie that I absolutely loved.

For those of you who are interested, watching a movie from the projection booth is almost as different as watching a movie at home versus the darkened theater. There is a tendency on the part of this projectionist that he is a part of the actual performance and not just a viewer.

Some of my early favorites:

'In the Bedroom' XXXXXXXXXXXX

'The Pianist'

Amoros Perros'

'Spirited Away'

'Downfall'

This video rental guide is dedicated to my late friend and mentor, Skip Baker, who ran the movie program at the Grand Theater in Ellsworth, Maine, for thirty years. Together, we spent hundreds of hours discussing the merits and the negatives of new movies that had just been released, usually in New York City. We had different tastes, but when we saw an excellent movie it usually ended up being shown at the Grand.
